Requirements

Before beginning, volunteers must:

  • Be 18 years or older.
  • Do an interview.
  • Attend about eight hours of training.
  • Provide references.
  • Be willing to apply for a Criminal Record Check, Child Abuse Registry Check, and Adult Abuse Registry Check.
  • Commit to:
    • Minimum of one shift per week for at least six months.
    • Option to be on a casual list for additional shifts as needed.

We’re looking for people who are:

  • Kind and welcoming to everyone.
  • Open to learning and growing.
  • Good at talking and listening.
  • Comfortable speaking with new people.
  • Respectful of different cultures and languages.
  • Physically able to stand, walk, and assist with mobility needs.
  • Ability to uphold confidentiality and privacy standards.

It also helps if you:

  • Know our neighbourhood.
  • Speak more than one language.

Quick Role Highlights

  • Greet and welcome clients and visitors.
  • Sanitize high-touch areas (e.g., phones, door handles, chairs).
  • Answer basic questions and direct visitors to appropriate services.
  • Support Klinic staff in emergencies or disturbances.
  • Maintain cleanliness of waiting areas and notify staff of facility issues.
  • Provide information on local services and resources.
  • Assist clients and visitors with technology and community resources.
  • Support crowd control and manage wait times.

Training Details

Welcome Volunteers will receive a general orientation on Klinic’s services and the Welcome Volunteer role. Training includes:

  • PHIA (Personal Health Information Act).
  • Routine Practices & Hand Hygiene.
  • Trauma-Informed Care.
  • Social Justice & Anti-Oppression.
  • Social Determinants of Health.
