Please join us in welcoming Klinic’s new Executive Director, Katie!

Katie Muirhead was raised in Winnipeg on Treaty One Territory. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Human Rights from the University of Winnipeg and a Master’s degree in Peace and Conflict Studies from the University of Manitoba. She is also currently pursuing a second Master’s degree in Disaster and Emergency Management from Royal Roads University.

Over the past two decades, Katie has spent several years in both Uganda and Greece in professional capacities. In Uganda, she oversaw a grassroots organization that helped navigate public health and education initiatives. Arriving in Greece in 2018, Katie spent the next five years working in Europe’s largest refugee camp, facilitating medical programs alongside other actors such as the United Nations, World Health Organization, Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders) and the Greek Ministry of Health.

Katie has a passion for access to holistic healthcare, including both psychosocial and medical services. Aside from this, she is a strong advocate for language justice, illustrated by her successful implementation of a language interpretation program in Greece. Katie believes in a strong grassroots approach to advocacy and human rights, recognizing that equity is the driving force behind making sustainable changes.

In her free time, Katie enjoys performing slam poetry, attending local shows, cooking for friends and family and doing crosswords. She is the mother of a pup named “Bia” and lives in central Winnipeg.
