Klinic’s workshops provide opportunities to learn, connect, and build practical skills that support safer, healthier communities. Our trainings cover topics such as mental health, trauma-informed care, crisis support, suicide intervention, and gender-affirming care for individuals, organizations, and community groups. These workshops are held on site at Klinic, 167 Sherbrook St. in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Most of our trainings are encouraged for an 18+ audience due to the mature nature of the content covered.

Workshop Details

ASIST is a two-day workshop created by LivingWorks and delivered by Klinic that teaches practical suicide intervention skills.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Recognize the warning signs and risk factors for suicide
  • Know when and how to intervene
  • Build confidence in responding to someone in crisis
  • Create a collaborative safety plan
  • Practice intervention skills in a safe, supportive learning environmen.

ASIST is designed for anyone who may support someone at risk of suicide, including caregivers, helping professionals, and community members.

Please note: You must attend both full days of training to receive your ASIST certificate.

Crisis Counselling Skills is a full day workshop designed to build foundational skills for supporting people experiencing a crisis. Participants will learn practical tools to better understand crisis situations, communicate effectively, and provide compassionate support.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Develop fundamental counselling skills and tools
  • Understand how crises develop and what defines a crisis
  • Explore crisis intervention approaches in greater depth
  • Learn basic suicide assessment and intervention techniques
  • Practice skills through role-plays and hands-on activities

Anyone can learn how to support someone in crisis. This training is designed for people working or volunteering in helping roles, as well as anyone who wants to develop basic crisis counselling skills.

Empowering Change: Understanding IPV and the Pathways to Healing is a 1.5-day workshop that builds knowledge, awareness, and confidence for health and social service professionals supporting individuals and families impacted by Intimate Partner Violence (IPV).

Participants will learn how to:

  • Understand the impacts of IPV on individuals, families, and communities
  • Explore how histories of oppression and colonialism contribute to systems of violence
  • Recognize the ways IPV can show up in personal and professional settings
  • Build skills for supporting people impacted by relationship violence
  • Explore the impacts of this work and strategies for self-care

The Gender-affirming Hormone Prescriber workshop is a half-day interactive workshop that supports healthcare professionals and students in building the knowledge, confidence, and skills needed to provide respectful, informed, and gender-affirming hormone care.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Apply a gender-affirming approach to hormone therapy care
  • Engage in informed consent-based discussions with patients/clients
  • Assess readiness and support individual care goals
  • Prescribe and monitor hormone therapy
  • Address common concerns, questions, and side effects
  • Access ongoing clinical resources and supports

This workshop is open to healthcare professionals and students only. Completion of Klinic’s Transgender & Gender Diversity Awareness and Inclusion Training is strongly encouraged prior to attending. Equivalent knowledge, training, or relevant clinical experience may also be considered. Participants will be asked to describe their related experience during registration.

Sexual Assault Awareness: Compassionately Responding to Disclosures is a full day workshop that builds understanding and confidence in responding to disclosures of sexual assault.

Using a trauma-informed and survivor-centered approach, participants will learn how to:

  • Understand sexual assault and the impacts of sexual assault trauma
  • Recognize how myths and misconceptions can affect responses to disclosures
  • Respond to disclosures in a compassionate, supportive, and trauma-informed way
  • Use an empowerment-based approach that prioritizes the survivor’s choices
  • Learn about resources and supports available for survivors and secondary survivors

This workshop is ideal for service providers, helping professionals, and community members who may support someone impacted by sexual violence. No formal counselling experience is required.

Please note: Full attendance of this one-day workshop is required.

Suicide Intervention is a half-day workshop that builds awareness and understanding of suicide. Participants will learn compassionate, non-judgmental approaches to recognize suicide risk, provide support, and help prevent suicide.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Support someone experiencing thoughts of suicide and help keep them safe
  • Understand the role of suicide in society and its impact on our lives
  • Recognize signs of suicidal thoughts and behaviours
  • Use basic suicide assessment and intervention skills
  • Explore ways to reduce risk

This workshop is for care providers, community members, and anyone who wants to learn how to support someone experiencing thoughts of suicide.

The Transgender & Gender Diversity Awareness and Inclusion Training is a half-day interactive workshop that explores the impacts of systemic anti-trans discrimination and provides practical strategies for creating welcoming, inclusive, and affirming spaces. Facilitated by Trans Health Klinic staff, including peer supporters with lived experience, this workshop explores transgender and gender-diverse experiences through diverse perspectives.

Participants will learn:

  • The impacts of systemic anti-trans discrimination
  • Transgender and gender-diverse experiences
  • Strategies for creating positive spaces and inclusive practices
  • Insights from peer supporters with lived experience
  • Approaches for applying inclusive practices within their work

This workshop is open to anyone working in a healthcare setting, including healthcare providers, nurses, allied health professionals, and support staff. It is intended for individuals looking to increase their understanding of transgender and gender-diverse experiences and strengthen inclusive practices in their work.

Trauma-informed Care is a half-day workshop that explores trauma, its impact on individuals and communities, and the core principles of trauma-informed care. Participants will gain practical strategies for integrating a trauma-informed perspective into everyday interactions while developing skills for self-reflection and awareness.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Recognize trauma and understand its impact
  • Identify the core principles of trauma-informed care
  • Integrate a trauma-informed approach into daily interactions
  • Practice mindfulness to support self-reflection and awareness

This workshop is for anyone interested in learning and applying the principles of trauma-informed care in everyday interactions.

Vicarious Trauma is a half-day workshop that explores trauma and vicarious trauma, offering practical tools to recognize, manage, and respond to its impacts.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Understand trauma and vicarious trauma
  • Recognize the impact of trauma on the mind and body
  • Identify warning signs and risk factors of vicarious trauma
  • Explore strategies to address and protect against vicarious trauma
  • Practice mindfulness techniques to support wellbeing
  • Develop stress management and self-care skills for everyday life

This workshop is designed for service providers and individuals in caring roles who may be impacted by the trauma they witness, support, or respond to in their work.
