Requirements

  • Must be 18+ years old.
  • Not currently in counselling with Klinic.
  • Open to learning and self-reflection.
  • Work with tough emotions and offer empathy.
  • Criminal Record Check (within 6 months) with Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • Child Abuse and Adult Abuse Registry Checks (can be done through Klinic for free).
  • Must commit to 200 hours of volunteer time (including training shifts).
  • Weekly 4-hour shifts.

Training details

Training is 14 weeks in the classroom and 12 weeks of hands-on experience. You’ll learn about:

  • Counselling skills and risk assessment.
  • Suicide, sexual violence, and trauma.
  • Mental health, oppression, and feminism.
  • Self-care, empathy, and boundaries.

Training is free. In exchange, volunteers complete 200 hours of service.
