Requirements

  • Must be 18+ years old.
  • Able to work remotely with strong internet connection.
  • Available for regular weekly shift (evenings, weekends, holidays).
  • Completion of Crisis Volunteer Training as well as 16 additional hours of 988-specific learning. Shorter training options may be available for applicants with previous experience in counselling roles.
  • Committed to trauma-informed, non-judgmental support.
  • Good ability to stay focused and present during crisis situations.

Training details

You’ll get 100 hours of free, interactive training to prepare for this role. Topics include:

  • Crisis counselling skills.
  • Suicide risk assessment.
  • Intervention strategies.
  • Role-playing practice.
  • Policies, documentation & systems.
  • Special topics like sexual violence, decolonization, and 2SLGBTQ+ crisis care.
