9-8-8 Volunteer Remote Responder
As a 9-8-8 Volunteer Responder, you’ll be someone callers can count on during their hardest moments. You’ll listen with care, ask the right questions to check safety, and guide people to helpful resources. This work takes a team — and your role is an important part of it.
Requirements
- Must be 18+ years old.
- Able to work remotely with strong internet connection.
- Available for shifts (evenings, weekends, holidays).
- Complete 40 hours of training.
- Committed to trauma-informed, non-judgmental support.
- Able to stay calm in crisis situations.

Training details
You’ll get 40 hours of free, interactive training to prepare for the role. Topics include:
- Crisis counselling skills.
- Suicide risk assessment.
- Intervention strategies.
- Role-playing practice.
- Policies, documentation & systems.
- Special topics like sexual violence, decolonization, and 2SLGBTQ+ crisis care.
