In Crisis? 
As I approach the end of my first year as Executive Director of Klinic and SERC, and the completion of my eighth year in an Executive Director role, and perhaps I reflect on a milestone birthday I have coming up (I will leave this number to your imagination), I have been contemplating the importance of anniversaries and milestones, and all the things that we use as guideposts as we travel through this thing we call life.
In this reflection I have become contemplative about what goals I have for myself as a leader in this next year, and in this next decade… and how I can communicate these and my progress. Perhaps we can start with this year and leave the decade for a future post…
Goal #1: Know and celebrate the work
I would like to dive much deeper into these two inspirational organizations that I have the joy of helping to lead. I want to know what our work looks like for our staff, our volunteers, and our clients. I am hoping that by shadowing staff in both agencies, or spending A Day in the Life as it were, I will be able to become increasingly connected to the work, which will help me fulfill goal number two…
Goal #2: Talk about the work (shamelessly)
And so… I started a blog. I hope that in this blog our staff, volunteers, clients, and community will be able to also see the incredible work that happens every day in organizations like ours, what still needs to be done, and how we can work together to make things happen. These are pretty lofty goals so perhaps I might need to intersperse with some sports commentary or gardening tips- of which I have neither so I may need some help…
Goal #3: Lead Aloud
Webster defines Aloud as; in a way that can be clearly heard : in a voice that can be heard
As we have already established that life is a long journey marked by many milestones, I think so is our development as humans. As I continue to develop in my role as a leader and particularly of these organizations, I hope to share my thoughts and experiences on the journey. Goal #4: Learn French…Again….
