This full day workshop will provide participants a greater understanding of sexual assault and sexual assault trauma in order to increase beneficial and supportive responses to disclosures. Using lecture, short film and group discussion facilitators will lead discussions on sexual assault awareness from a trauma-informed lens as well as examine societal myths, misconceptions and biases about sexual assault and how this might influence our responses. Participants will learn the benefits of working from a client-centered empowerment model that prioritizes informed choice when supporting someone making decisions about their care, including decisions about accessing medical services or involving the justice system. Information about relevant resources will also be provided.
