Volunteering as a 9-8-8 Remote Responder at Klinic

As a proud partner in 9-8-8, Klinic Community Health is seeking remote volunteers to support the offering of the 9-8-8 Crisis line within Manitoba.

9-8-8 Volunteer Remote Responders at Klinic Community Health provide non-judgemental, unbiased, crisis counselling support and intervention over the phone. Responders conduct safety/risk assessments with service users reaching out for support through 9-8-8, provide resources as needed, and are responsible for timely and accurate contact documentation.

The ideal 9-8-8 Volunteer remote responder will be looking to:

  • Build your skills and gain professional experience in trauma-informed crisis counselling and suicide intervention
  • Find mentorship opportunities and create connections with a community of responders in social services and crisis supports
  • Fulfill your student practicum in social work in a supportive environment
  • Make a tangible difference in the lives of others

Training Schedule

9-8-8 Remote Responders receive a mandatory 40-hour interactive training to prepare them with a trauma-informed approach to crisis counselling and suicide intervention. Training is divided into multiple sessions, covering topics including:

  • Counselling Skills (3.5 hours)
  • 9-8-8 Suicide Risk Assessment (4 hours)
  • Role Plays (3.5/4 hours)
  • 9-8-8 Systems (3 hours)
  • 9-8-8 Interventions (3 hours)
  • 9-8-8 Policies/Procedures (3 hours)
  • 9-8-8 Documentation (2 hours)
  • Additional Modules: Queering Crisis Work (3 hours), Decolonization and Indigenous Peoples (3 hours), Introduction to Sexual Assault and Intimate Partner Violence (3 hours), Listening Shift (4 hour)
