Our Welcome Volunteers play the very important role of welcoming clients and community members into our space at 167 Sherbrook, keeping our front reception area organized and comfortable, and helping to ensure that Klinic staff and visitors are following proper steps to keep our community healthy and safe.
Thank you for your interested in the Welcome Volunteer Program! We have had an enormous amount of interest in this program and have closed the application/intake for now to give us the chance to catch up on the applications we have received. We will resume taking new applications once we’re feeling caught up and have space to offer more opportunities. We’ll provide updates on this page as they occur.
Welcome Volunteer Requirements
We are looking for applicants who can welcome visitors into our space with kindness and compassion, who can reflect Klinic’s values through their work, and who bring an openness to learning and growth. We’ll provide extra training to help you do this work in a way that feels trauma-informed and supportive of equity and choice, and some extra learning about communication and privacy in health care.
Our Welcome Volunteers are often the first people visitors speak with when they arrive at Klinic, so communications skills are especially important. Experience with multiple languages and knowledge of different cultures are definitely an asset, as well as experience living in our neighborhood. Welcome Volunteers should have some comfort in approaching and speaking to new people.
Applicants will need to attend an interview, approximately 8 hours of training, and provide some references before beginning in this position. All applicants also need to be willing to apply for a Criminal Record Check, a Child Abuse Registry Check, and an Adult Abuse Registry Check, and need to be at least 18 years of age.
Shifts are scheduled Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 11am, 11am to 2pm, 2pm to 5pm, and 5pm to 8pm, (with the exception of no 5-8pm shift on Friday evenings), and on Saturdays from 10am to 1pm, and 1pm to 4pm. We ask new applicants to commit to a regular 3-hour shift each week, for a minimum of at least six months, or a flexible schedule of four shifts each month scheduled on a week-to-week basis.
